Resources to use before or after a visit
We've seen a remarkable array of school projects generated in anticipation of or following a Six String Nation presentation - from banners and murals to book reports and songwriting and performance competitions. Teachers across Canada have made their own curriculum links and developed their own activities and discussions. Use the Materials Matrix as your guide.
Also, we've developed a series of activities with Esri Canada using their ArcGIS platform. Using this powerful tool is a free licence for schools in Canada. If you're not already using ArcGIS in the classroom, register below. If you are using it, log in and search "Six String Nation" for a mapping demo and continue on to your own individual or class activities.
The components or resource matrix document describes each of the pieces of the guitar, case and strap - including their location and origins - along with suggested study areas.
If you're simply looking for photo images of all of the elements of the project along with basic info, you can also link to our Wikipedia entry
or to our public galleries on both Flickr
and GooglePhotos.
If you're using Esri's ArcGIS platform, one of the activities lets you plan your own guitar made from materials that tell your story and link those elements to locations - it's called Storymapping.
If you're NOT using the ArcGIS online tool you can still embark on a similar project using the images and directions you'll find in this document along with your own photos, drawings, words and maps.

Esri Canada has created a map of the Six String Nation project which students can either simply view as an interactive map or recreate as an exercise. In addition, together we've created additional activities that invite students to weave their own personal histories into the story of the Six String Nation.
