Rationale

Interested in bringing the Six String Nation experience to school?

The Six String Nation school presentation is more or less the same as the presentation for adult audiences with a few adjustments in tone. It is about 70 minutes in total, including a "performance pocket" section at the end during which pre-selected students and/or staff play Canada's most famous guitar for the assembly. It is aimed at grades 4-12 and connects with the following strands in the Ontario Curriculum:

Grade 4
Social Studies: People and Environments: Political and Physical Regions of Canada

Grade 5
Social Studies: Interactions Between Indigenous and European Peoples

Grade 6
Social Studies: Heritage and Identity: Communities in Canada Past and Present

Grade 4-8
The Arts (specifically Drama, Music): Reflecting, Responding, Analyzing – The Critical Analysis Process; Exploring Forms and Cultural Contexts

A much shorter presentation designed for younger primary students is also available.

The Alberta Social Studies curriculum guide already includes a section on Six String Nation and educators in other parts of Canada have made numerous curriculum connections using the documents available for download on the resources page.
